Vulcanus

Vulcanus is the computer environment for park planning and management assistance at the 'Zona Volcānica de la Garrotxa' Natural Park. This Geographic Information System is based on the MiraMon software. The project has been a pioneering experience for Catalonia in implanting this type of system in small areas and in integrating them in the operation of an organization (in this case, the Park's management team). Vulcanus is a set of data, computer tools and procedures for managing the more than 2Gb of information on the Natural Park. This is a decentralized, open system based on the Park's network of computers, and it uses Internet technology to offer access to the data and information. Vulcanus integrates all of the Park's environmental features (geology, soil, water, forest, vegetation, flora, fauna, game, public usage and legal aspects) in order to apply them to planning and managing the areas of rural improvements, natural heritage and public use at scale of 1:5000.
