Publishing Digital Data
Introduction
The Vulcanus project began as a tool to help improve park management, but this was obviously not the only goal in mind. From the very start of the project, there was a clear intent to make the data public once the project was consolidated. This was due to the need to make digital tools and data available to government offices, managers, professionals and students of the 'Zona Volcānica de la Garrotxa' area in order to offer greater information and knowledge through the use of a compatible, consultable and reproducible environment.
We would like to reach other places that are interested in this type of management, by offering this GIS as a tool that helped to structure and consolidate the management model for 'Zona Volcānica de la Garrotxa' Natural Park. The idea is to be of help, make proposals and offer elements to optimize the use of information and available resources.
Publishing this data now makes a greater volume of information and data available in digital format and which used to be on paper format. This enables savings to be made and easier access in a quick, adaptable way to graphical or documentary data.
In order to make use and publishing easier, the guidelines that we used are those of the GIS of the Department of the Environment's Environmental Information System of Catalonia. Soon, Vulcanus's public information will be made available at the GIS page of the Department of the Environment. This frequently updated wealth of information will thus be available via Internet.
