Land Analysis

This section of the CD-ROM presents a series of examples of the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in land analysis. The idea of this section is to show some classic examples of land analysis (data capture, environmental impact assessment, making maps of vulnerability and making cartographic end products).

The examples presented here are not a complete introduction to each type of analysis, since that would be too great an undertaking for this CD-ROM. The idea is to offer a glimpse to the set of techniques that GIS offer to land managers. Implementation of a GIS in public administrations with territorial management responsibilities, as is the case with Vulcanus, means making available to the managers-planners a set of organized information that is ready to be analyzed using the GIS' tools.

Although the general outlines for solving the analyses set forth and the principles on which they are based are the same, each GIS package has its own particular features and way of operating. The analysis problems dealt with in this case are solved using Vulcanus' GIS tool, the MiraMon software.
