MiraMon 6.1 now available

Dear MiraMon user,

We are pleased to invite you to discover and enjoy the new MiraMon 6.1 version. As you well know, MiraMon Project develops a powerful Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing software with the aim to be a useful, rigorous, quick and widely use instrument.

With this MiraMon version, new features are presented or strengthened, as:

For more details about the major features in MiraMon 6th version, you can download the next document with about 100 pages of improvements and news:

As we frequently remind, MiraMon was first developed, and it’s still being developed, thanks to lots of hours of dedication and personal illusion, and fortunately it has been growing up and improving due to the participation of a solid and enthusiastic group of collaborators, to its intensive use in many research projects, to the direct Administrations and enterprises financing and, of course, to licenses and several contributions, whether financial or in matter of content, that realize many users who join us to the project every week.

In this 6th version, we must be specially thankful to the support given by the Departament de Governació i Administracions Públiques ot the Generalitat de Catalunya, that has decisively helped to MiraMon impulse with its gratuitousness policy to the Administrations, University and Students of its domain.

We are also pleased to the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya initiative to distribute, whether on its shops or by Internet, its extraordinary high quality cartography in MiraMon formats. ICC and CREAF groups, altogether, have been doing a great effort in order to offer a product which perfectly combines the cartographic beauty and the informative potential of ICC maps without renouncing to the richness of the digital access to all the vectorial elements, complete metadata, etc. in the same work environment.

In this sense, we are satisfied to announce that we have nowadays overcome 24000 (!) registered users, in 37 countries around the world, that thousands of copies of the MiraMon Map Reader have been spread by Internet or by thematic CD/DVD, and that lots of students use MiraMon to take their pre and post university degrees about GIS and Remote Sensing in several Universities and Research Centers. Taking into account that program diffusion has been essentially carried out by non conventional publicity media, but just by Internet static information and by verbal recommendation, we are also very grateful for the great acceptation into the GIS and Remote Sensing community.

At the same time, we must give our thanks to Centre de Recerca Ecològica i Aplicacions Forestals, CREAF, for being lodging the project and helping to its quality and quantity increased. But, moreover, CREAF enrich and correct the program every day by its numerous group of people who in one way or another work with territory: in the open country, generating thematic cartographical layers, analyzing data, studying remote sensing images, developing spatial or statistical analysis tools,…

An important role in the progress of the program is leaded by the Departament de Geografia de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where several people work in key aspects for the future development of MiraMon, considering, as well, all the students that teach us daily how to improve some interface or functional topics of the program.

As always, we try to modify just the important things in order to avoid much more effort of users to adapt to a new version and only justified in case of new functionalities and improvements. For all this things, we still try to follow MiraMon motto of being a program easy to learn which provide highly and complex analytical tools and results with a comparatively little effort, and with no difficulty to be follow in its temporal evolution.

Finally we want to thank your support again and express the desire of still counting on your collaboration.

Sincerely,

Xavier Pons
