A web site based on the MiraMon Map Reader
wins the Möbius Award

The Geographic Information System web site of the Department of the Environment of the Catalan Government, based on the MiraMon Map Reader, won the scientific and technical section of the Barcelona Multimedia 1999 Möbius award, celebrated the last October 22nd.

Also an international award was given later (on May 2000)...

Happiness and satisfaction were the feelings of Claudi Cervelló and Xavier Pons when they represented the DMA and CREAF team and went on the stage to get the award . The web site The Department of the Environment GIS was the winner of the on-line scientific and technical section of the Barcelona Multimedia 1999 Möbius award, celebrated the October 22nd, 1999.

The day before, Ferran Miralles (DMA) had presented the web site to the jury and the rest of people there. Miralles emphasised the use of GIS as a unification tool, allowing the Administration to join efforts and information from many different sources and formats. Also, he brought into special prominence MiraMon Map Reader as a fast, small, easy to use and completely developed in Catalonia (our country) tool.

He answered the questions of jury, talking about the ways of consulting the data and about the compression algorithm ratio without any data degradation.

The GIS web site and the other winners in 1999 Möbius Awards are going to participate as a exclusive representative of Spain and Portugal on the 8čme Prix Möbius International des Multimédias that is celebrating in París in the framework of the ceremonies of the millennium in May, 2000.
