Principal contributions

Since its creation, CREAF has made very important contributions to the field of terrestrial ecology and towards a sustainable management of the environment. This has been achieved through research, development, training and technology transfer. Some of these contributions are:

Publication of numerous scientific articles in international academic journals included in the Science Citation Index and in national academic journals and other specialist publications.
Development of numerous methodological tools, both scientific and technological.
Training of over sixty new doctoral students, from Spain and abroad.
Design and implementation of the Ecological and Forest Inventory of Catalonia (EFIC). This inventory is innovative at the international level due to the incorporation of ecological parameters.
Development of the MiraMon © Geographic Information System, currently being used in over thirty countries around the world.
Production of the Land Cover Map of Catalonia (MCSC), a high-resolution digital map for environmental assessment and territorial planning and management.
Development of MiraBosc ©, a comprehensive program for consulting complex forest databases.
Development of GOTILWA+ ©, a simulation model for forest ecosystems suitable for estimating carbon balances and the response of woodlands to climate change.
Organization of scientific meetings, postgraduate courses and technical workshops, at the national and international levels.
Publication of numerous specialist books and popular articles.
