Since its creation, CREAF has made very important contributions to the field of terrestrial ecology and towards a sustainable management of the environment. This has been achieved through research, development, training and technology transfer. Some of these contributions are:

| Training of over sixty new doctoral students, from Spain and abroad. |
| Design and implementation of the Ecological and Forest Inventory of Catalonia (EFIC). This inventory is innovative at the international level due to the incorporation of ecological parameters. |
| Development of the MiraMon © Geographic Information System, currently being used in over thirty countries around the world. |
| Production of the Land Cover Map of Catalonia (MCSC), a high-resolution digital map for environmental assessment and territorial planning and management. |
| Development of MiraBosc ©, a comprehensive program for consulting complex forest databases. |
| Development of GOTILWA+ ©, a simulation model for forest ecosystems suitable for estimating carbon balances and the response of woodlands to climate change. |
| Organization of scientific meetings, postgraduate courses and technical workshops, at the national and international levels. |
| Publication of numerous specialist books and popular articles. |
